Fashion Revolution: Driving Change in the Global Apparel Industry

On April 24, 2013, tragedy struck when the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed. More than 1,100 lives were lost and over 2,500 people sustned injuriesan incident that stands as the fourth deadliest industrial disaster in history.

This event marked the inception of Fashion Revolution – a global movement advocating for transparency, safety, frness, environmental responsibility, and worker rights within the fashion industry. It was born out of a desire to one would ever agn risk their life making clothes we wear.

Most notably, Rana Plaza housed factories where women workers were producing garments for some of the world's leading brands. These victims included 5,000 young women who lost their lives in an industrial catastrophe due to poor safety standards, with many expressing fear that the building was unsafe before its collapse. Despite warnings about cracks and potential dangers, these brave souls continued to work inside, and were tragically caught up in a tragedy that could have been prevented.

Since then, Fashion Revolution has rallied citizens across the globe, along with brands and policymakers, to advocate for systemic change within the fashion industry. We believe that transparency is essentialfashion should not come at the cost of lives or the planet's health.

In response to our collective efforts, significant changes have been observed. Brands now disclose more about where their clothes are manufactured and how they impact the environment. Factories in garment-making regions are becoming safer, and a greater number of supply chn workers are gning visibility and voice. Sustnability is being prioritized over profit margins, as companies are increasingly aware of their environmental footprint.

We envision a global fashion industry that operates sustnably while providing millions with decent livelihoods. It should foster conservation efforts to restore our environment, promote creative expression through clothing choices, unite communities, and contribute positively to society.
