City Mayor Malik D. Evans Unveils Reusable Public Market Shopping Bags Featuring Local Art

Mayor of Rochester, Malik D. Evans, proudly launched the innovative reusable shopping bags for the city's iconic Public Market today. This unique initiative combines sustnability with community spirit and artistic expression.

The introduction of these reusable bags not only symbolizes our commitment to environmental conservation but also highlights our vibrant local art scene, Mayor Evans expressed. Proceeds from sales will contribute to supporting the artists while also providing food assistance for those in need through the Market Token Program. We're thrilled that this initiative has come to fruition and look forward to fostering more collaborations that benefit both the environment and local talents.

The bags are adorned with two exceptional artworks: one by Michael Tomb and Marcia Zach of Studio Michaelino, depicting a floral design; and another creation by Nancy Wiley which captures the essence and liveliness of market atmosphere. These designs beautifully reflect Rochester's rich artistic heritage while promoting sustnability.

Each bag is made from 100 recycled plastic water bottles, priced at $6 per item with $4 going to Fris of the Public Market for the Market Token Program for SNAP recipients, $2 will be shared between artists Michael Tomb and Marcia Zach, and $2 to Nancy Wiley. The funds rsed will help mntn local artists' livelihoods.

We are proud to make this an annual tradition, Mayor Evans sd. Each year, we'll feature new designs by different artists, deepening our commitment to environmental stewardship and fostering the local art community.

The bags can be purchased at Artist Row during market hours, starting from September 15th during the annual juried art show benefiting Fris of the Public Market.
